Here's an easy, 7-ingredient hummus recipe that only takes about 5 minutes to prep! Keep scrolling to the end of this post to see a bonus (hint: a new use for hummus)! Making your own hummus ensures you are avoiding ultra refined seed oils found in many store-bought products as well as preservatives and thickeners that can negatively affect the gut microbiome and cause GI symptoms. How many ingredients are in your store bought hummus?

Hummus made with the extra virgin olive oil is a great way to add in healthy fats into your days. It is a wonderful healthy snack; as a dip with veggies or pita bread, or an addition at lunchtime, as a spread on your sandwich. Did you know that hummus freezes well? I'd say that's a huge plus to making this! You could easily double the recipe and freeze half for later use.

This recipe is from Love and Lemons. Be sure to check out their blog post and see all the variations they offer. I personally love to add in Kalamata olives - yum!

Ingredients:

Instructions:

  • In a high-speed blender, place the chickpeas, tahini, olive oil, lemon juice, garlic, and salt. Use the blender baton to blend until very smooth, adding water as needed to blend, and/or to reach your desired consistency.

  • Transfer to a serving plate, top with desired garnishes and serve with warm pita and veggies, as desired.

BONUS:

Did you know you can take your hummus and make it into a salad dressing?! Simply Recipes suggests by merely adding in liquid or oil to your hummus, you will effortlessly get a creamy, dairy-free salad dressing! A dressing with no additives and high nutritional value is a necessity in my kitchen. I will be experimenting with adding in lemon juice, lime juice, apple cider vinegar, and extra-virgin olive oil. Enjoy and have fun trying different things out!
